The Territory
The territory of Castagneto Carducci fit into the heart of the Maremma Livornese, at the center of the so called Costa degli Etruschi. The land is flat along the coast, where else is the important Game Reserve of Bolgheri, while rises in the hinterland. The coastline overlooking the Ligurian Sea is characterized by vast pine forests, planted as a result of land reclamation carried out in the nineteenth century in order to protect the farmland behind.
Bolgheri is famous for poems of the poet 'Carducci' and excellent red wines that are produced in the grounds around the village. The village is developed around the medieval castle that sits on a small hill which can be reached by crossing the charming 'Cypresses'. Since its origin (around 1000) Bolgheri was dominated by the counts of the Gherardesca and during the time suffered several attacks by the Florentines and later by Emperor Maximilian in 1496.
Marina di Castagneto Carducci is surrounded by pine trees between the sea and the Countryside. The sandy beaches and clear shallow waters (awarded the Blue Flag of the FEE and the sails of Legambiente) are visited every year by many tourists who choose to spend their holidays here.
